Kerala Election Results 2025: BJP’s T Raneesh Captures Key Ward Of Sitting Mayor In Kozhikode

Kozhikode: The BJP has made significant gains in the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation as early results of the Kerala local body elections 2025 begin to come in.

The party has captured several high-profile wards, including the sitting mayor’s division and the ward of the Congress mayoral candidate, marking a major political shift in the city.

The most crucial win for the BJP came from Pottammal division, the ward of incumbent Kozhikode Mayor Beena Philip. BJP candidate T Raneesh emerged victorious in the division, defeating LDF candidate Adv Aangathil Ajay Kumar. In the previous election, Beena Philip had won this ward with a margin of 652 votes.

The BJP also registered a win in the newly created Mavoor Road division, where Sreeja C N secured victory for the party. Another major setback for the Congress came as the BJP won the Paroppadi division, where PM Niyas, the Congress mayoral candidate, was contesting. BJP candidate Harish Pottangadi won the ward.

In addition, the BJP captured Chalappuram ward, a long-time UDF stronghold. BJP candidate Anil Kumar K P won the seat, which had been allotted to the CMP under the UDF alliance.

The Chalappuram ward had witnessed internal protests within the Congress after it was given to the CMP, leading to resignations by several party workers and the candidature of a rebel Congress leader.
