Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently alleged that the Indian government is involved in the assassination of Khalistani separatist, Hardeep Nijjar.

Following the row, both Canada and India expelled senior diplomats and the situation is getting worse.

India suspended visa services for Canadian nationals, Canada issued travel advisory asking citizens to avoid J&K travel.

Intensifying the ongoing India-Canada diplomatic row, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday repeated his charges on India”s involvement in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar stating that there are “credible reasons” to believe the same.

“We are going to continue to do the work necessary to keep Canadians safe and to uphold our values and the international rules-based order. That”s our focus right now”, Mr Trudeau added asserting that his country stands by the international rules-based order. “We are a country of the rule of law”, said the PM addressing a press conference at Canada”s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

“As I said on Monday, there are credible reasons to believe that agents of the Goverment of India were involved in the killing of a Canadian on Canadian soil. That is …there is something of utmost foundational importance in a country”s rule of law in a world where international rules-based order matters…we have rigorous and independent judges and robust processes”, the PM said.

This is a continuation of the ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada over the Canadian PM’s claim of “credible allegations” that the Indian government is involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan Sikh terrorist. India has already dismissed these allegations as “absurd” and “motivated”.

The row get more worsened as both of the country expelled its senior diplomats. India also suspended visa services in Canada on Thursday citing ‘operational reasons’, and the National Investigative Agency (NIA) issued three separate requests demanding information from the public to identify ten wanted Khalistani extremists accused in San Francisco Indian Consulate attack case.

“India has suspended visa services in Canada. Are you going to take some kind of action in this”, asked a media personality to the Canadian PM during the press meet.

“We call upon the Government of India to take seriously this matter and to work with us to shed full transparency and ensure accountability and justice in this matter”, the PM replied adding that keeping Canadians safe is his primary responsibility while upholding the international rules-based order.

Mr Trudeau further said in response to a query, “We are standing for the rule of law or highlighting how unacceptable it would be for any country to be involved in the killing of a citizen on its own soil.”

“I think it is important that as a country with a strong, independent justice system … we allow those justice processes to unfold themselves with the utmost integrity. but I assure this decision to share these allegations on the floor in the House of Commons on Monday morning was not made lightly and was done with utmost seriousness”, he added.
