No Supplementary Exams For Class 10 Under 'Two Exams' From 2026: CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to eliminate the ‘high stakes’ aspect of Board Exams. From the academic session 2026, all students will be allowed to take Board Exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired, CBSE said in the official notification. A draft scheme for the conduct of 2 Board examinations for Class 10 has been developed.

CBSE Two Exams Formula: Key Highlights

  • As per the draft prepared by the CBSE the examinations will be scheduled in two phases from – 17 Feb to 6 March, 2026 (1st Phase) and 05 May to 20 May (2nd Phase).
  • The total duration of the exam will be (18+16 = 34 days).
  • The result of the 1st phase will be declared by 20 April, 2026 and the 2nd phase of exams will start and the result for the 2nd phase will be declared on 15 August 2026.
  • For second examinations, LOC will be made live immediately after the result declaration only for opting out of second examinations.
  • First/ Second examinations will also act as Supplementary examinations. No special examination will be conducted in any circumstances.
  • No passing document will be issued after the result of 1st
    examinations. Performance of 1st examination will be made available in DigiLocker.
  • Practical/ Internal assessment will be done only once.
  • Students can opt to not to appear in the 2nd examination.
  • Students who will not be able to qualify the 1st examination could be allowed to take admission in Class XI. Their admission will be finalised based on the result of the 2nd examination.
  • A total fo 26,60,000 students are expected to sit for the class 10 board exams 2026.
  • Both the examinations will be conducted on the full current syllabus and the text books.
  • The best of the two attempts will be considered for assessment to all board exams.
  • For the Sport’s students, they have to appear in any of the two
    Board Examinations of Class X and no separate examination
    will be conducted for them.
  • Examination fee will be enhanced and collected for both examinations at the time of filling of LOC for the first time which would be non-refundable if once paid.
