Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide & Bridge Collapse Blocking West Bengal Highways
Dudhia, West Bengal: Overnight rains dumped 200 mm in North Bengal, causing a massive landslide on National Highway 110 and washing away a temporary bridge over the Balason River at Dudhia.
The tragedy severed road links between Siliguri, Darjeeling, and Mirik, stranding communities near the Indo-Nepal border. Darjeeling MP Raju Bista inspected the site and called for a sturdy Bailey bridge from the Army, while authorities set up alternate routes.

Notably, no casualties have been reported. More heavy rain is forecast through June 24 with red alerts in place. The intense rains that occurred last night between 18th and 19th June 2026 have triggered landslides and created minor flood-like situations in several parts of Dudhia, destroying some of the key bridges.
District administration has created alternative routes for heavy vehicles and passenger vehicles to ensure connectivity and safety of the people who need to travel.
