The torrential downpour in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has led to the death toll increasing to 35 people. As the flood waters recede, the state governments have stepped up rescue and relief operations. Nearly 4.1 lakh people have been affected by the heavy rainfall and subsequent floods. Over 43 thousand people have been moved to 163 relief camps across the state, as per reports.

The state government, led by CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, has set up 197 medical camps. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) continued relief operations in the flood-affected district of Vijayawada. Six Mi-17 helicopters and two Chetak helicopters have been deployed to deliver food packets and other necessary supplies to people stuck in waterlogged areas. With drones employed to deliver aid, the relief operations have been running efficiently in the many areas in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Andhra Pradesh’s NTR and Krishna districts. The state government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the above districts on Wednesday.

A yellow alert has been issued for four districts—Komaram Bheem, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalapalle, and Mancherial—in Telangana predicting heavy rain on Wednesday, September 4. The meteorological centre in Hyderabad predicts heavy rain in certain areas of the state till September 7.

A cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra, Yanam, and surrounding areas between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above sea level has been observed. The IMD added that a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal until September 5.

As residents struggle to fulfil their daily needs, rescue and relief operations are in full swing.

Floodwaters has begun to recede in several areas in both states thanks to significantly lower levels of rainfall on Tuesday. The state governments used the opportunity to intensify relief operations in the affected regions. “The speedy restoration work on the Grand Trunk route, which connects the North and South of Telangana, will soon be completed, allowing train services to resume,” said Union Minister Kishan Reddy on X.
