Sam Altman Officially Returns To OpenAI As CEO

OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman has officially returned to the AI startup as its CEO. The company made this important announcement on November 30 through a blog post. Mira Murati, who became the interim CEO after Sam Altman”s removal, will return to her previous CTO position. Also, Greg Brockman will return as president. Meanwhile, the San Francisco-based AI startup is celebrating its first anniversary, as the AI chatbot was unveiled on November 30 last year.

On November 17, Sam Altman was sacked by OpenAI’s board of directors. This controversial decision resulted in a lot of chaos within the company. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on November 20 that Sam Altman would join Microsoft. However, on November 22, Sam Altman made a surprising announcement that he had decided to return to OpenAI as its CEO.

In the blog post, OpenAI stated that they will be having a new initial board, which includes Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo. “I have never been more excited about the future. I am extremely grateful for everyone’s hard work in an unclear and unprecedented situation,” said Sam Altman in the post. Altman also said that books are going to be written about this time period. “I hope the first thing they say is how amazing the entire team has been,” added the OpenAI founder. Sam Altman also mentioned the company”s immediate priorities. Altman said that advancing OpenAI”s research plan and further investing in its full-stack safety efforts are top priorities.

Microsoft-backed OpenAI”s ChatGPT has undergone significant changes since its launch. On November 30, Sam Altman reminisced about the groundbreaking launch of the AI chatbot. “A year ago tonight we were probably just sitting around the office putting the finishing touches on chatgpt before the next morning’s launch. what a year it’s been…,” wrote the OpenAI co-founder on his X handle.
