Tragedy struck in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, as twenty-year-old Mohit Kumar lost his life to a snakebite shortly after participating in the Lok Sabha elections’ second phase on April 26. Kumar, a resident of Jairampur Kudena village in the Anupshahar police station area, was bitten by a snake while visiting a park in the evening. Despite his immediate efforts to seek medical help, Kumar passed away during treatment. His family then proceeded to immerse Kumar’s body in the Ganga River, hoping to revive him.

Reportedly, locals in the village attempted to stop the blood flow by tightly knotting around the wound before rushing Kumar to a nearby doctor. However, upon arrival at Rana Hospital in the city, doctors advised taking him to a government hospital. Tragically, Kumar was declared dead by doctors at the government hospital. “We took him to many seers who treat snakebites, but they declared him dead,” said the relative.

Kumar’s family, believing in a superstition, chose to put his body into the Ganga River, believing that it would remove the poison. A relative explained, “There’s a saying that poison gets removed if you put the body in the Ganga river, and we did the same,” quoted NDTV.

Videos circulating online showed a crowd gathered on the banks of the river, with Kumar’s body tied to a railing, as onlookers hoped for a miraculous recovery. However, as time passed without any signs of movement in Kumar’s body, his family eventually performed his last rites at the riverbank.
